Fijian soccer fans will be given a voice in this year’s ‘Popular Footballer of the Year’ award to be presented at the Fiji FA/Air pacific Annual Awards night on January 26.

Fiji FA Executive Officer Bob Kumar said he is expecting the public to be vocal about their nominees like last year.

The ‘Popular Footballer of the Year’ award was introduced to the prize giving for the first time last year and Kumar said the public voting system was a way of capturing and
attracting the soccer fans attention.

The top bets for this year’s popular footballer award are Ba striker Tui Masi Manua, Suva defender Inosi Cava, Navua striker Valerio Nawatu, Labasa striker Roy Krishna and Lautoka
defender Samuela Kautoga.

The prize-giving’s Gold Award category includes Football Player of the year (including women), Football Administrator of the year (one from super premier and premier), Football Coach
of the Year, Football Referee of the Year and Popular Player of the Year.

The Silver Awards category includes Junior Footballer of the year, Team of the Year, Fair Play Award and Media Personnel Award.

The awards incentives include scholarships for the pursuit of academic or professional training, overseas attachment, medals, cash prizes and certificates.

“This annual event had been designed primarily to motivate, identify and reward Fiji FA members who have actively contributed towards the development and promotion of the sport in
the country,” said Kumar.

Kumar said the nominations will only be accepted on the official form and in respect to performance and achievements from September 1, 2006 through to November 30, 2007.

“In relation to the administrator and coach of the year awards, the persons should be nominated primarily on their achievements during in the past year, however, contribution for the
three-year period including the current year could be accepted,” said Kumar.

He said nomination could and should only be submitted by the affiliated associations.
