PORT VILA – Tafea FC and Kossa FC face an OFC O-League Group B crunch match in little under half-an-hour with defeat for either side almost certainly spelling elimination from this season’s competition.

The first match between these two clubs ended 1-1 at Lawson Tama Stadium but since then both clubs have gone on to record victories over last season’s OFC O-League finalists Ba.

Tafea FC – current Port Vila Football Association League champions for the fourteenth season in a row – defeated Ba 2-1 at Port Vila Municipal Stadium in its last OFC O-League outing and know that another victory over Kossa FC will confirm its finals credentials.

Kossa FC won its final DJ Graphics League match against Naha FC by 4-1 with goals from Gideon Omokirio, Paul Wale, Reginald Davani and Joe Luwi.

In a more stern test of Kossa FC’s abilities, a loss against the Batram Suri inspired Makuru FC by 3-1 suggests that a match in Port Vila against Tafea FC is far from a straight forward proposition.

One factor weighing in Kossa FC’s favour is the fact Tafea FC finished its PVFA League season some months ago and many of its players have not played a competitive club match since the season decider against Tupuji Imere.

The form of James Naka, Joe Luwi and Papua New Guinea international Reginald Davani will be important if the current Solomon Islands champions want to go all the way to the final against either Auckland City or Waitakere United of New Zealand.

Geoffrey Lego Gete, Fedy Vava and Samson Obed are seen as Tafea FC’s important players with Gete one of only a handful of Vanuatu players to shine at the recent OFC Men’s Olympic Football Tournament in Lautoka, Fiji, at the start of the month.

The last competitive fixture Tafea FC played – aside from warm-up matches against the Air Vanuatu Warriors international Olympic Games squad prior to the OFC tournament – was a match against Erakor Golden Star that finished 3-1 in favour of the Robert Calvo-coached Tafea FC in the Supa 5 tournament.
