AUCKLAND – The Young Football Ferns take on a ‘New Zealand Selection’ in a crucial warm-up next weekend (October 4) less than a month out from the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The match – a curtain raiser for the Northern Region League All Stars v Football Brisbane – will be the first competitive action for Paul Temple’s team after the final 21-strong squad is named on Wednesday and the first of three matches against a ‘New Zealand selection.’

A collection of Auckland-based age-group and senior Football Ferns will line up against the Young Football Ferns on October 4, 11 and 16, and under John Herdman replicate the expected tactics and systems of New Zealand’s World Cup opponents Canada, Denmark and Colombia respectively.

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup begins on October 28 with New Zealand taking on Canada at North Harbour Stadium in the opening match.

The match at McLennan Park kicks off at 1pm with FIFA staff displaying the World Cup trophy at the ground.
