The federation donated the equipment to Goldie College this month as part of its humanitarian commitment to schools across the Solomons.
The donations were made possible through LEARN&play, an SIFF initiative which promotes football in the country and gives aid to the federation’s partner schools.
The tools included spades, forks and brush knives and will be used by students for maintenance of the school grounds and agricultural activities. The 1000-gallon water tank will assist with the supply of clean drinking water for female students.
It will be installed in the newly completed girls dormitory which was also funded by the LEARN&play project.
The handover of the assistance was conducted at Goldie College during a brief ceremony in the school’s dining hall. Teachers and students and officials from SIFF witnessed the ceremony.
SIFF special projects manager Phillip Ohoto’ona says the federation has a special interest in Goldie College as a partner school in the LEARN&play programme and is happy to help out however it can.
“I hope that the tools will be put to good use in cleaning up the school. The water tank will help the female students have good clean drinking water,” he says.
Ohoto’ona also extended his appreciation to the former Goldie College pupils who organised a week-long programme of sports and community awareness that culminated in the handover of the donation.
Principal Tito Mamani took time to thank SIFF for providing the water tank and tools and is appreciative of all the assistance the school has received from the national football body.
