The centre is the first of its kind in the district of Navua, which the FFA view as an important catchment area for football.
Vice president of the FFA, Yogeshwar Singh, hopes the concept will see improvement at the elite levels of football in the country.
“It is imperative that as the governing body in Fiji, the Fiji Football Association and its board does what they can to assist districts in terms of development,” he says.
“Our vision is to deliver the highest standards of excellence in football development to everyone in this country.
“The grassroots development in the district will see long-term benefits for Fijian teams, as players will be guided by qualified coaches from a young age.
“It is a good opportunity for the elite players to train with qualified and experienced technical coaching staff at least once a week at the centre as well.
“The players who will be recruited for the centre will also have the opportunity to be selected for the Fiji U-17 squad in 2017.
“This is our development plan and a career pathway for players and coaches.”
Players in the system will receive individual skill and fitness training, as well as being educated to understand and use the tactical elements of football.
