Team manager Andrew Leong says football can play a positive role in the world and that the Amicale team have the potential to bring joy to the lives of others.
“Some of the sick people can never come to football but always listen to how the team is doing on the radio when a match is on live. We know that even though they are sick their hearts and prayers are with us on the field of play,” he says.
Leong feels that the club needs to return the favour.
“We want to give our support to the sick people, especially the younger ones in the children’s ward at the hospital,” he says.
“Our top players will give out presents to the children and we all wish them a quick recovery. We hope they will get well soon.”
The country’s O-League representatives are also trying to help out the children’s ward by donating money earned from the sales of an official Amicale FC 2011 calendar.
The calendars can be purchased on Saturday from PVL Stadium in Port Vila at a cost of VUV 200.
Amicale, who are on top of the TVL Premier League standings, meet third-placed Spirit 08 at the ground from 3pm. The league leaders will be without Solomon Islands star Alick Maemae but fellow fans’ favourites Fenedy Masauvakalo and Jack Wetney will be in action.
Spirit 08 will depend on the likes of Robert Tasso and Edu David to find the back of the net.
A side from Tafea FC will take on the Academy U-17 team in the curtain-raiser at 1pm. The main match will be broadcast live in Vanuatu on FM 107 Radio.
