The squad will continue with its preparations over the next few weeks before a final 20-member line-up is named by former national rep Logaivau.
“The players are currently training in their respective zones,” he says.
“By the end of the month the whole squad is expected to be in camp where the preparation will continue. We will be working with the 25 players and later the final squad of 20 will be named to travel to New Caledonia.”
Australia-based Vanisha Karishma Kumar has forced her way into the squad while the likes of Bela Ratubalavu, Viniana Riwai Naisaluwaki, Kurukaba Ligavola Kaibau, Laijipa Daini, Viniana Simmons and Shirlyn Pryadhasahna Singh have been retained from the national side which participated in the 2010 OFC Women’s Nations Cup in New Zealand.
Logaivau has faith in the players’ ability to better the result from the last Pacific Games in 2007, when the national women’s side returned from Samoa with a bronze medal.
“We began our campaign with around 50 players. So far there have been several camps which have helped in the selection of the 25 players,” Logaivau says.
“My plan is to utilise the time we have. We will work on the various tactical drills and team-bonding exercises, and will polish up on our skills before we complete our preparation.”
