Both teams had not recorded a win during their first three matches of the tournament and the Solomon Islands started off strong with a 3-0 score in the first half.
American Samoa’s main goalie Frederick Maiava left the game in the 63rd minute due to a knee injury. Maiava had started the match after tweaking his knee during warm ups and after seeing him limp, referee Bruce George of Vanuatu stopped the game to check on him.
He was taken out on a cart and in game substitute Sione Moeaki, earning his first playing time of the competition.
He allowed two goals while patrolling the net.
Scoring the goals for the Solomon Islands were Timothy Bakale (21’), Obed Kevin (35’) Atkin Kaua with two (47’, 77’) and Jared Rongosulia (90+).
American Samoa’s last game will be against New Caledonia on Saturday, May 31 before heading back to Samoa on Sunday, June 1.
