The Vanuatu striker touched down in Port Moresby last week to join up with his new team mates and received a warm reception on his first day of training duty from team manager Vonnie Natto and the players.
The 17-year-old’s father, former Vanuatu international Ivoky Kaltack, accompanied him on the trip and says he is happy with how Hekari have embraced the talented teen.
He feels there is plenty of talent in the squad and that his son will fit in smoothly to the line-up.
“Jean has adapted well in Port Moresby,” the proud parent says
“He will be partnering Kema Jack or Raymond Gunemba, a new signing from Eastern Stars, up front. In the midfield, the likes of Papua New Guinea captain David Muta and Samuel Kini will feed Jean and the other players in the striking force.”
Kaltack has signed a one-year deal to play for the 2010 O-League champions and will take part in their National Soccer League and O-League campaigns, which commence on October 15 and 29 respectively.
He will not have to wait long to return to Port Villa as Hekari’s first O-League clash is away to Vanuatu side Amicale, who finished runners-up in last season’s edition of the Pacific’s premier club competition.
Kaltack first caught the eye at the OFC U-17 Championship in Auckland in January, scoring five times for Vanuatu as they finished fourth. He and his country both went one better at the OFC U-20 Championship three months later in the same city, Kaltack notching six goals to win the Golden Boot as Vanuatu earned bronze.
His feats at the age-group tournaments were enough for the rangy forward to then to be included in the senior side during the preparations for the Pacific Games.
He impressed enough in the friendly lead-up matches to be included in the squad for the Games, which took place in New Caledonia during August and September, and continued his progress in Noumea by being among the top-scorers with a six-goal haul.
Hekari have been drawn in Group B for the 2012 O-League and will fight for a place in the final with Amicale, Koloale and Auckland City.
