The match – originally scheduled for a 15h00 kick-off today – was delayed by an hour by OFC General Coordinator Michael Song and members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC).
But with rain continuing to fall the decision to reschedule the match between the American Samoa and Samoa club champions for Wednesday was taken by match referee Matt Conger in agreement with the LOC and both head coaches.
“This decision was taken because of concern over player safety due to water covering the entire pitch surface.”
The heavy wet weather also caused flight cancellations in and out of Pago Pago and partial flooding on main roads.
OFC backed the decision by match official Matt Conger and also took into account the safety issues faced by the general public
The last time the two teams met Kiwi triumphed 5-1 at last season’s edition of the OFC Champions League Preliminary in Tonga.
The remainder of the fixture list for the OFC Champions League Preliminary tournament is unchanged provided the rescheduled match goes ahead tomorrow as planned.
