THE future for Fiji’s minnows Tavua, looks bright after the completion of the Fiji Secondary Schools under-17 soccer tournament in Ba on Sunday.

Tavua College won the final beating defeding champion, Tilak High School 1-0 in the final.

The Tavua Super Premier side is not doing well in the New World National Football League, and plays in the Bottom Four.

Both teams were locked 0-0 after full time and the first spell of extra time. With time running out in the second half of extra spell, both teams started to plan for the dreaded penalty kicks.

However, Datt rose to the occasion and netted the winner, which sent the Tavua College players, officials and fans into frenzy.

Coach Dinesh Kumar said they had wanted to make the school proud, and his players had achieved that.

"After we beat Cuvu College in the semi-final, we wanted to go into the final and do our school proud," Kumar said.

"Our first priority was to play well for the school, winning was not the main issue."

In the semi-final, Tavua College beat Cuvu College 3-0. Tilak beat Labasa College 5-4 on penalties, after both teams were locked 2-2 after extra time.

Labasa Sangam beat Cuvu 4-0 for third place.
