The ANZ – ASNOC “Sports for All Day” was a major success on Saturday with American Samoa Football Association (ASFA) playing a major role in promoting healthy sport.

Hundreds of school children and adults spent time at the ASFA tent both watching the latest 2006 FIFA World Cup Film, “THE GRAND FINALE” and participating in the PEPSI Challenge.

Football is proving to become a popular attraction for the youth who have been fed on the more traditional American sports in the past.

As the sport grows on the mainland and the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA) reporting that between 16-18 million Americans play soccer( football) each year, (source: FMMInternational), ASFA believes that more and more of the youth of American Samoa will turn to the beautiful game.

If the response is anything to go by, it won’t be long before we have a few players who can “Bend it like Beckham” and thus become role models for future generations.

ASFA wishes to thank both Pepsi (Panamex) and Sony (Pacific Products) for their generous support of Saturdays promotion.
