FRANCE – The 2008 Coupe de l’Outre-Mer sees both New Caledonia and French-Polynesia locked in a battle for survival after the latest round of matches saw the Oceanian pair well beaten by Guadeloupe and Martinique.
French-Polynesia have lost both matches in its campaign so far and look destined for elimination before the play-off rounds to determine 1st-6th place. Only a victory over Guadeloupe will give them any chance of progression.
New Caledonia faces a difficult challenge and must beat Martinique in its final match to qualify for the final or playoff for 3rd/4th. A 1-0 over French-Polynesia was offset by a 4-0 loss to Guadeloupe.
Martinique lead Group 1 with a 100% record.
In Group 2, La Reunion lead on goal difference from French-Guiana after both territories defeated Mayotte 6-1 and 4-2 respectively.
The winner of Group 1 plays the winner of Group 2 in the 2008 Coupe de l’Outre-Mer Finale, while the two runners-up playoff for 3rd/4th.
Third place getters in both groups meet to contest 5th/6th place.
Fourth place in Group 1 finishes 7th overall.
