The programme is one of the major legacy initiatives being implemented in Papua New Guinea in the lead-up to, and following, the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
In addition to the launch of the programme, a FIFA Women’s Coaching Course is being conducted by FIFA Instructor Carolina Morace, a former Italy player and coach.
The course is being held at the Rita Flynn Indoor Complex and is being attended by female coaches from all across Papua New Guinea and is preparing them to help with the implementation of Live Your Goals.
PNGFA vice-president Linda Wonuhali says the coaching course and Live Your Goals is a platform through which the legacy programme can be channeled.
“This course is a way forward for the development of football int he country for our young girls. Football has gained momentum as a direct result of the upcoming world cup and we hope mjore women and girls will be inspired to play football,” Wonuhali says.
The objectives of Live Your Goals are to increase the participation of girls and women in football, increase the popularity of women’s football locally, nationally and globally, spark, foster and generate excitement about women’s football, create the best platforms for women’s football to thrive with more females becoming lifelong participants in the sport, and ensure that football is the number one sport for females across the globe in terms of participation and popularity.
Also lending his full support to Live Your Goals and the opportunities it will provide in Papua New Guinea is FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Local Organising Committee CEO Seamus Marten.
“There is already a strong focus on women’s football development in the country and the leagcy aspect of maintaining these commitments will be through the implementation of these legacy programmes.”
Live Your Goals will be launched on Sunday and will coincide with NCDC Govenor Powes Parkop’s health initiative, ‘Walk for Life’.
