The trio of O’Leary and assistant referees Jan-Hendrick Hintz (New Zealand) and Ravinesh Kumar (Fiji) will be making their second appearance officiating at a Club World Cup after participating in the 2011 edition.
The Club World Cup takes place in Japan from December 6 to 16 with officials being nominated from FIFA’s five other confederations – AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL and UEFA – as well as a support trio from Iran.
The selected match officials will preside over eight games in the seven-team tournament, which will see the champions of each confederation fight it out to be crowned the best club side on the planet.
The upcoming involvement of O’Leary, Hintz and Kumar in Japan 2012 is the latest positive result of OFC’s Refereeing Assistance Programme (RAP).
OFC places great importance on developing world-class referees and this has been strongly supported by FIFA through its funding of the programme.
