The Oceania Football Confederation, Local Organising Committee in consultation with the match officials and team officials of both clubs made the decision to cancel the game after the weather made it untenable to hold two matches today.
With this afternoon’s scheduled match between Tupapa Maraerenga of Cook Islands and Kiwi of Samoa set to determine the winner of this competition, a collective agreement was reached to allow this match to go ahead as scheduled, with a new kick-off time of 2pm (local)
“With the two clubs, Kiwi and Tupapa Maraerenga, the only sides left in the competition in with a chance of advancing to the OFC Champions League group stages we decided to cancel this morning’s match.
“The playing surface has stood up well over the course of the tournament but player and match officials safety were paramount. There was also a desire to see the decisive match of the competition played on a Pago Park Soccer Stadium surface in as good a condition as possible for such an important match.”
