The country’s male U-15 team is set to take part in the Fédération Française de Football National Youth Cup, scheduled to be held in Paris in April, and will meet teams from both youth academies of professional clubs and amateur leagues at the event.
Coached by Serge Martingo de Novack and assistant Léon Waitronyie, the squad gathered at the Pentecost field in Noumea for two weeks this month to begin their preparations for the trip.
Aware the side is likely to come up against opponents of a high calibre in France, the coaching duo have been working their young charges hard, putting them through their paces with two training sessions a day throughout the fortnight of the camp.
“It will be a great experience for our young footballers to be exposed to talented players of the same age who have had more trainings and come from a professional environment,” de Novack says.
“That is why we need to be well prepared. We have to be able to battle as hard as we can and take benefits out of this experience to improve our performances in the future.”
A total of 26 players are in the training squad and hail from three provinces. Another training camp is planned to be held in February.
