The 37-year-old defender/midfielder will continue his club career with Auckland City FC for the rest of the current season.
OFC General Secretary Tai Nicholas was full of praise for the one-time OFC Player of the Year.
“Ivan Vicelich is a tremendous role model for young boys and girls with dreams of playing football at the highest level both in New Zealand and around the Oceania region and he was a stand out for the All Whites during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Ivan’s performances, and that of the All Whites in finishing undefeated in South Africa, were tremendous achievements.
“It is sad to see him bring down the curtain on a long and successful international career, but we at least get to see him continue to play in the OFC Champions League with his club Auckland City. Everyone at the OFC wishes Ivan well as he looks to a future after football,” he said.
Vicelich won three OFC Nations Cup titles with New Zealand and was also instrumental in Auckland City lifting four of their five OFC Champions League crowns.
The New Zealand defender also played at three different FIFA Confederations Cup tournaments with the New Zealand national team and four FIFA Club World Cups with his club.
Vicelich’s performances resulted in him winning the OFC Player of the Year award in 2009.
His professional football career took in stops with the Football Kingz, Roda JC and RKC Waalwijk in the Netherlands and a short stint in China with Shenzhen Ruby in 2010.
He is New Zealand’s most capped ‘A’ international with 88 matches well ahead of nearest rivals Simon Elliott (69) and Vaughan Coveney (64).
In a glittering domestic career, Vicelich won four Chatham Cup titles and three separate National League titles with three different clubs as well as two ASB Charity Cup wins.
And the towering defender could yet add to that haul with his club Auckland City chasing their sixth OFC Champions League title in Fiji in April and a first ASB Premiership title since 2009.
