The line-up includes a number of the region’s most experienced match officials with assistant referee Ravinesh Kumar making up one part of the trio, led by New Zealand referee Peter O’Leary, appointed for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil.
Joining him will be Tahiti referee Norbert Hauata and assistant referee Mark Rule of New Zealand who have been named as a support duo for Brazil 2014.
The pair, along with Tonga assistant referee Tevita Makasini who appeared during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, were last called into international action during the FIFA U-17 World Cup in UAE in late 2013.
Together they were in charge of two matches, with Hauata also being used as a fourth official during the quarter-final between Argentina and Cote d’Ivoire and the semi-final between Sweden and Nigeria He and Rule were then named fourth and fifth officials respectively for the final between Nigeria and Mexico.
A number of referees who are forging a path for themselves regionally are Fiji’s Andrew Achari and Salesh Chand, New Caledonia’s Bertrand Billon, Matthew Conger of New Zealand and Gerald Oiaka from Solomon Islands, all of whom receive regular call-ups for OFC competitions. Rounding out the list of seven referees is Vanuatu’s Nawen Hopken who has been a FIFA referee since 2007.
The six remaining Assistant Referees who will travel to Fiji are Papua New Guinea’s David Charles, Vanuatu’s Mahit Chilia, Didier Hmuzo of New Caledonia and Paavo Mustonen from the Cook Islands.
The OFC has named former English Premier League and UEFA Champions League referee Steve Bennett of England, Fiji’s Paresh Kishore and Robert Savage of the Cook Islands as Referee Assessors. FIFA Fitness Instructor Mark Hester has also been appointed to travel to Fiji.
