Ali will assist head coach Kamal Swamy in readying Nadi for the tournament, which is set to take place next month at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
The pair have worked together before and most recently joined forces for the OFC Nations Cup, held earlier this month in the Solomon Islands capital Honiara.
Ali and Swamy were assistant coaches to Juan Carlos Buzzetti but the former ended up taking a larger role in the spotlight than anticipated due to an injury to Buzzetti.
The Uruguayan slipped and fell in the pool area of the team hotel and fractured his hip, leaving him bed-ridden for much of Fiji’s campaign.
Assistant Ali was therefore forced to take the reins after the opening loss to New Zealand but was not able to guide Fiji through to stage three of World Cup qualifying as draws with Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea denied them a semi-final spot.
His previous experience with Swamy was far more successful though, the pair teaming up to take Fiji all the way to the final of the OFC Men’s Olympic Qualifier in Taupo, New Zealand, where they narrowly lost to the hosts to miss out on London 2012.
Nadi president Tarun Patel is pleased to have brought Ali on board and says he brings a wealth of valuable experience with him.
