Maemae received his first yellow card back in October during Amicale’s 2-1 away win over defending champions Hekari United – a result that raised more than a few eyebrows at the time – and picked up his second in the last round against Lautoka.
Amicale triumphed 5-1 on that occasion and Maemae was cautioned in the 29th minute when he let his emotions get the better of him and removed his shirt to celebrate putting his side 2-0 up.
That result all but booked Amicale’s passage to the O-League final, which will take place next month over two legs against Auckland City, and only a freak set of results this weekend would deny them.
The absence of Solomon Islands winger Maemae will be keenly felt against Koloale as he has been in fine form this season, scoring three goals as Amicale have exceeded expectations to give themselves a chance of winning the title.
Maemae has linked up well with fellow Solomon Islander Jack Wetney and local hero Fenedy Masauvakalo, who leads the golden boot race with six strikes, to form a potent attack that has notched 12 goals in the campaign so far – three more than any other side in the competition.
The Amicale defence will also not be at full strength against Koloale. Defender Young Paul joins Maemae in the suspension stakes after receiving a straight red card in the last round for a tackle on Lautoka’s Valerio Nawatu.
Maemae, Wetney and three other Amicale players – Lenson Bisili, Mostyn Sanga and Edika Maeta – spent much of last week in the Solomon Islands, where they joined up with the national training squad to begin preparations for the Pacific Games.
The Games are set to take place in Noumea, New Caledonia, during August and September and the top three-placed sides will go on to play-off with New Zealand in the OFC qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014.
