The station has joined forces with Fédération Calédonienne de Football (FCF) to put on the event since 2006 and it has grown to become one of the most important events on the youth calendar.
The aim is to encourage physical activity amongst the country’s youth and further development football at the grassroots level. Football is not the only focus and emphasing values such as respect and friendship is also a key aspect of the tournament.
FCF President Edmond Bowen is enthusiastic about the event and believes it provides an ideal platform for the young people of New Caledonia to showcase their talents.
“It is a great opportunity for football in New Caledonia and the young generation to be able to participate in this great event,” he says.
“It is a great pleasure to work with such an important partner and we will work further to develop our partnership and build the competition further.”
Canal+ chief executive officer Serge Lamagnere is pleased to support the tournament and believes it has a bright long-term future.
The event is open to boys and girls aged 10 to 11 and will take place in three provinces over several dates.
The island of Lifou will be first to host the action on October 29, while the youngsters of Nouméa and Ponérihouen will show off their skills on November 5 and 19 respectively.
Kamali Fitialeata is in charge of running the event for FCF and says it will be very well attended.
“Around 550 participants will take part over the three days,” he says.
“This project is of real importance to the federation and requires a lot of careful planning on our behalf. The FCF President and executive committee will be present during the event, which shows the interest of the federation in both this tournament and developing the game around the country.”
