Taiwia Poida held the role of president for the past two years and has seen the league grow from just five teams to ten women’s football clubs competing in the annual Port Vila competition.
Following the executive committee meeting on Saturday and the election, taking over as president is Josina Malap from the Tafea Women’s FC with Julia King of Tupuji Women’s FC elected as vice-president.
The Port Vila Women’s Football League is run on the passion of a small group of ladies with an undeniable love of the beautiful game.
Taiwia Poida says it was a credit to these ladies that the election had such a good turnout and she’s looking forward to keeping an eye on the future growth of the women’s game.
“The election went really will with nearly all the club presidents present to vote. I think women’s football in Port Vila will be in good hands.”
The term for the executive committee is two years.
The semi-final of the Women’s Football Independence Cup preceded the meeting and saw Amicale down Tupuji Imere 2-1 and Westam Girls defeat Tafea 4-1 to earn their respective spots in this weekend’s final.
The grand final of the PVW Independence Cup between Amicale and Westam will be held at Amicale Field on Saturday, 26 July with kick-off scheduled for 2pm.
The third place play-off will take place at 12pm with Tafea and Tupuji vying for the honour.
