London-based luxury goods company Thomas Lyte, an industry leader in the design and creation of silver and gold trophies, was commissioned by OFC to make the President’s Cup trophy, which joins an array of glittering silverware crafted by the company for the Confederation’s wide-ranging competitions in 2011-14.
OFC General Secretary Tai Nicholas picked up the latest OFC trophy this month and it will be competed for by six teams – Amicale, Auckland City FC, Bodden Town, Busaiteen, Fiji U-20 and Singapore U-23 – during the inaugural edition of the tournament, which takes place at The Trusts Arena in Auckland from 17 November.
“The trophy is beautifully crafted by Thomas Lyte and fits in with the rest of the OFC trophies they have manufactured for us over the past two years.
“The motifs are reflective of the cultural composition of the people that make up our Confederation and we’re proud to have it contested for by teams from around the world,” Nicholas said.
The stunning trophy consists of a crown and shaped handles upon which different motif patterns sit reflecting the Melanesian, Polynesian and Maori cultures respectively.
Thomas Lyte produces a broad range of trophies and awards for a truly global client base and has vast experience in the football realm having worked with US Soccer and the MLS in the United States as well as the FA and Premier League in England. It is also a major supplier to the Asian Football Confederation.
The trophy will be on display at the Bula Festival at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau on Sunday 16 November from midday.
The OFC President’s Cup kicks-off on 17 November when Oceania champions Auckland City FC face Singapore U-23 at 5pm NZST.
The entire tournament will be broadcast live via OFC TV’s YouTube channel with highlights packages distributed throughout the Pacific, Caribbean and South East Asia.
Live radio coverage of selected matches is provided by Humm FM, APNA 990, Ethnic Media 360 and Radio Tarana.
