HONIARA: Kurukuru head coach Victor Wai’ia says he is working on his boy’ fitness to ensure they are at par and can compete with the teams in their pool in Brazil.

Wai’ia who successfully led the Solomons futsal team to Australian State Competitions in the past and most recently the Oceania Football Confederation know exactly why it is important for his players to be fit.

“We are working on their fitness and most of them have responded to the sessions I had with them,” he said.

The Kurukuru coach hinted that he will hold another fitness test soon to further gauge the players’ fitness level.

“All I can say is most of them reached the OFC fitness level and I believe they will improve further before we travel to Brazil,” he said.

Their target is to reach the levels of their opposition teams and Wa’ia is working on it.

Besides their fitness, Wai’ia is also considering taking the team to Fiji for their final part of preparation on the international court.

“Fiji has a World standard indoor court which is about 42m by 25m and if my boys train there they should be ready for Brazil.”

The  Kurukuru’s opening match is against Cuba on September 30, Brazil on October 2, Japan on October 4 and Russia on October 6.
