Former Glasgow Celtic and Scotland goalkeeper Jonathan Gould has named a youthful New Zealand combination for the Football for Life matches in Fiji.

With 13 of the 17 players named in the squad today under 23-years-old, many of Gould’s side will provide the backbone for the New Zealand U-23 side that begins its qualifying campaign for the 2008
Olympics in March.

Five full internationals have been named in the squad including three – James Pritchett, Andy Barron and Jeff Campbell – who played in the All Whites’ 2-2 draw against Wales in May, plus a recall of
sorts for uncapped Craig Wylie who made senior squads in 2006 but wasn’t taken on this year’s trips to South America or Wales.

Jeff Campbell, the oldest player in the squad at 28, continues his comeback at international level after making his first appearance for the All Whites in five years in the Wales game.

All Whites defender, Steven Old, is one of two Wellington Phoenix players included. The other, Jacob Spoonley, joins Craig Henderson, Cole Peverley and All White Jeremy Brockie as players graduating
from the New Zealand U-20 side that recently competed in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.

Among the newcomers, the names of twin brothers Joel and Sam Mathews stand out. The inclusion of the Central United duo completes an eventful week for their family – younger brother Jake was named in
the FIFA U-17 World Cup squad.

Completing the international players selected for New Zealand are Stuart Hogg, David Samson and Australia-based Daniel Ellensohn who competed in the OFC Beach Soccer Championships in July this
year.
