The Young Football Ferns will face Spain in San Jose three days later before finishing their group stage campaign with familiar foes Japan on 23 March.
The standout section is arguably Group B, which pits the 2012 runners-up Korea DPR – champions of the inaugural edition in 2008 – against Germany, Ghana and Canada.
The tournament will be played across four stadiums, three in San Jose and another in Liberia, between 15 March and 4 April 2014.
The Young Football Ferns qualified for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup following the cancellation of the OFC U-17 Women’s Championship originally scheduled for January 2014.
This will be the fourth FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup attended by the Young Football Ferns since New Zealand hosted the inaugural event on home soil in 2008.
