Naqeleca made his debut for the national team in 2007 at the age of 18 and says he is looking forward to getting down to business in his new role.
“I want to start my work on the development of football with children so that in a few years time they are developed and are established to play constructive soccer,” he says.
The former Hekari FC captain says he is grateful to Fiji FA for giving him an opportunity to work as a development officer.
“I thank Fiji FA for giving me the opportunity to come and work as a development officer and to share my knowledge with young kids”, he says.
Naqeleca says the opportunity to aid in youth development and to see football from a coach point of view is one he’s looking forward to.
“This is a new chapter in my life and I have always looked at football from a player’s perspective but now I have been given a chance to see to from the other side.”
Naqeleca was part of the national team which played against Wellington Phoenix. He has previously represented the national team in all the age groups and has a wealth of experience.
Fiji FA technical director Ravinesh Kumar said Naqeleca has been brought in as they have a new technical development system in place now.
“He is our national rep and his inclusion in the development programme will boost the morale of the young players. He will be visiting all the development centres and demonstrating his skills which will create more interest from our developing players.
“He will also be a motivator because he has played abroad and has huge knowledge of football.”
Kumar added that Naqeleca is a disciplined person and would be a great asset to the technical team in the development centres.
