FFS technical development officers Papalii Tala and Martin Tamasese travelled to the Savai’i Regional Technical Centre where they led 21 participants through the ropes.
“We now have the facilities in Savai’i and it is very important that we give as much support and assistance to the people of Savai’i to develop football and strengthen their clubs, especially at grassroots and youth level, Tala says.
“This course is the second step of the previous course that was held last year in July and will help the coaches prepare for the upcoming Savai’i League which gets underway next weekend.”
As well as coaches from the eight regional clubs, coaches from Special Olympics Samoa were also present at the course to learn more about preparing, organising and delivering a training session.
The targeted age group the coaches are generally working with is five to 12-year-olds, and at the conclusion of the course the participatns should be able to organise and deliver a training session at grassroots age level.
Tala says later in the year the coaches will be provided with an opportunity to participate in the next level of coaching licence available.
