These results in the final round matches of the 2014 Telikom National Soccer League also confirmed the final placing for the top four and which teams will be playing in the semifinal this weekend.
Hekari finished the regular season on 30 points and picked up the minor premiership while Oro FC though on bye finished second on 20 points, Lae FC jumped into third spot with 19 and Gigira Morobe United finished with 17 points to get in fourth spot.
Admiralty beat Besta PNG United 3-1 and have a game in hand against Lae but a favourable result does not get them near a finals placing.
It’s not to say that Hekari is invisible, they are beatable and Gigira showed glimpses of their potential but they were off target on most occasions when in Hekari’s goal mouth.
In the main encounter, Eastern Stars were credible in the first half and had control of the match with midfielders Junior Sato, Basil Jofari and Gerard Maken in command over Emmanuel Simon and Henry Gawi.
But in the second half, Lae crowded the middle of the field and penetrated Stars up the middle and the move reaped four recise goals.
Emmanuel Yawi took only eight minutes into the second half to score the first goal of the match when Henry Gawi put him through on the flank. Yawi used his speed the defence and slid the ball under a diving Paul Peter into the net.
Yawi created the second goal when his thundering left footer was palmed off by Peter and landed at the feet of Clement Peka. Peka heaved the ball over Peter and tapped it into the empty net.
Peka collected his double when he powered through in midfield and slammed the ball low and wide of the approaching Peter.
