The Kiwi got off the mark for the season when he cancelled out David Amoo’s opener prior to half-time, before four goals in 18 second-half minutes took the Foxes out of reach against their League 1 hosts.
Wood should have doubled his tally on the stroke of half-time when he blazed a terrific centre from Vardy over from close range, but would soon make amends after the break.
His second came after his side won a penalty following a foul in the box allowing Wood to step up to the spot and drill home a powerful low strike.
Wood’s chance to crown his night came when he received a pass that split the defence which he sent across the keeper and into the back of the net for his hat-trick. It was his final contribution to the night as he was substituted in the 66th minute.
Another Kiwi also found the back of the net for his side this week in England.
U-20 midfielder Cameron Howieson turned out for the Burnley Development Squad in their 4-2 win in a friendly against an experienced Crewe side on Tuesday afternoon (local time).
Howieson played the full 90 minutes as well as scoring one of his side’s four goals in the encounter.
