Western United, Solomon Warriors, Hana, Real Kakamora, KOSSA, Malaita Kingz, Koloale and Maris are all taking part in the championship which has seen the teams divided into four groups of two teams each.
The format sees the first placed team in the S-League will play the eighth team, second plays seventh and so forth.
The groups have therefore been allocated as follows:
Group A: Western United, Marist
Group B: Solomon Warriors, Koloale
Group C: Real Kakamora, KOSSA
Group D: Hana, Malaita Kingz
The clubs in each group will play their opponent in a home-and-away series with the winner over the two legs proceeding to the semi-finals.
Western United and Solomon Warriors took early advantage in their fixtures with sizeable victories over Marist and Koloale respectively.
The S-League winners Western United were out to regain lost pride following their loss to KOSSA in the concluding match of the league a week earlier. This put Marist in an unenviable position as the Commins Menapi coached side hammered seven unanswered goals past them over the course of the 90 minutes.
It was a tougher task for Solomon Warriors against Koloale but Moses Toata’s men proved experience counts for a lot as they managed to come away with a 3-1 win. Koloale were dealt a further blow during the match when defender Jack Wasi was sent off for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
The two matches scheduled for Sunday kick-off were postponed on account of bad weather which left the pitch at Lawson Tama stadium unplayable.
Following the mid-week catch-up matches, the Championship will continue this weekend with the away leg of each fixture.
