Fiji and Tahiti have played out a 1-1 draw in their FIFA Tri-Nations International Friendly match at Port Vila’s Korman Stadium in Vanuatu on Friday 7 June.

The Tahitians took the lead in the 27th minute thanks to a low drive from outside the box by Sandro Tau while Fiji’s best chance of the first half came in the 32nd minute courtesy of  Rusiate Matarerega who just missed the target.

In a dramatic second half  Fiji was denied a penalty claim for a handball inside the box by the Vanutau referee which frustrated coach Christophe Gamel, who was sent off for arguing with the match officials.

Vodafone Fiji national women’s coach Marika Rodu has replaced  Gamel on the bench.

The Bula Boys got the equalizer in the 91st minute after captain Dave Radrigai made his way into the box beating the Tahitian defenders and was fouled from behind which saw Fiji awarded a penalty.

Radrigai stood up to convert the spot kick for a 1-1 draw.

Fiji will play Vanuatu national team on Monday in the second match of the series.
