The Solomon Islands Football Federation’s Just Play department distributed equipment to the Guadalcanal Football Association (GFA) during a recent U-14 festival at DC Park while promoting social awareness and delivering healthy tips to prevent COVID-19.

GFA, under the leadership of a new executive, successfully held a one-day festival for primary school kids in the west and central Guadalcanal with Just Play handing out football equipment, including soccer balls, bibs and drinking bottles.

Just Play Regional Coordinator Michael Bate’e said his team of volunteers had a great time educating the kids during the activities on the football pitch.

“Basically we shared some important healthy lifestyle messages with the kids as we are in a period of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

“The children participated in our activities which involve questions and answers based on keeping good hygiene.

“Also we donated balls, handbags and some Just Play items thanks to our partners the Australian government, New Zealand government, UEFA Foundation for Children, Football Federation Australia and UNICEF.”

GFA President Leroy Siovi was happy with the turnout and acknowledged Just Play’s assistance which made the event a success.

“Thanks to the Just Play team who are here to assist us with this festival; I hope all the children have learned something from their awareness talks.”
