Solomon Islands national team captain Micah Lea’afala has made the next step in his professional career, signing with NPL South Australian side FK Beograd. Lea’afala made the move from Wynum Wolves in the Queensland competition.

Lea’afala was most recently seen on the international stage last year in the OFC Qatar Qualifiers, when he led Solomon Islands to the final against New Zealand. Even though they lost the final, his play and that of his team impressed many.

Before then, Lea’afala was a member of the all-conquering Auckland City FC, who are a perennial fixture in the OFC Champions League. Beograd is a team formed from the Adelaide Serbian community, which was formerly known as White City Woodville until changing its name last year as a tribute to now the now defunct FK Beograd that was based in Belgrade.

Meanwhile, Ian Kalu been signed by Napier City Rovers, a Central League club in New Zealand. The 23-year-old defender will bolster Rovers’ roster as they make a bid for promotion to the NZ National League this season. Kalu is no stranger to NZ football, having played against the All Whites in the OFC Qatar Qualifiers last year.
