New Zealand will face Germany, Colombia and Mexico in the group stages of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2022™.

The Junior Football Ferns have been drawn in Group B for the tournament, which takes place from August 10-28 in Costa Rica.

The draw for the competition was held today at the Teatro Nacional in San José, revealing the pathway to glory for the 16 participating teams and fans around the world.

New Zealand’s three opponents will each present a unique challenge. Germany are the joint most successful side in the competition’s history, with a total of three wins, only levelled by the United States. Colombia qualified having finished second in the 2022 South American Under-20 Women’s Football Championship and Mexico are three-time quarter-finalists who qualified by finishing as runners-up in the 2022 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship in March.

New Zealand’s best performance in tournament history came in Canada in 2014, when they made the quarter-final stage. In 2018, the Junior Football Ferns exited at the group stage after tough assignments against France, Netherlands and Ghana.
