North American talent named for Tonga

Tonga have included a North American-based trio in their squad for the OFC Women’s Nations Cup, which kicks off on July 13 in Fiji.

Daviana and Laveni Vaka from the Utah Avalanche have both been named in the squad, along with Canadian club player Kiana Swift, who plies her trade with the Victoria Highlanders club.

The rest of the squad comes from the Tonga domestic scene, with Veitongo FC headlining the representation by supplying six players.

Tonga will take on Samoa and the Cook Islands in an all-Polynesian Group A at the tournament.

The full Tonga squad for the OFC Women’s Nations Cup is below:

Goalkeepers: Meleana TAUFA (Veitongo FC), Madison TENIFA (Fasi mo e Afi FC), Hehea TAUFA (Longolongo FC), Enisolo FA (Hunga FC).

Defenders: Meleseini TUFUI (Veitongo FC), Ofaloto LAAKULU (Veitongo FC), Patiola TONGA (Nukuhetulu FC), Daviana VAKA (Utah Avalanche, USA).

Midfielders: Ana LAUTEAU (Veitongo FC), Ana POLOVILI (Veitongo FC),  Mele KAFA (Nukuhetulu FC), Fololeni SIALE (Fahefa FC), Finehika FINAU (Fahefa FC), Siunipa TALASINGA (Veitongo FC), Kiana SWIFT (Victoria Highlanders FC, Canada), Laveni VAKA (Utah Avalanche, USA), Naomi PALANITE (Longomapu FC).
