AS Magenta went through pool play unbeaten to finish at the top of Group C of the OFC Champions League 2020.

The group faced some challenges when Cook Islands qualifier Tupapa Maraerenga FC withdrew on the eve of the tournament due to health concerns.

Tupapa’s fixtures were forfeited, meaning the three remaining teams each played only two matches.

Group C was hosted in New Caledonia and home side AS Magenta scored some cracking goals in their victories.

As featured in the video above, Kevin Nemia’s strike, which found its way to the top left corner of the net, helped his side towards their 3-2 win over Tahitian side AS Tiare.

Nemia scored twice in that triumph, which proved vital for his team.

“For sure it felt great to score those goals, but the victory was more important and meant more to me,” the forward said.

In the same game, Manarii Porlier scored a great goal for Tiare with his 76th-minute thunderbolt.

Nemia’s teammate Nathaneal Hmaen also scored one of the group’s best goals in Magenta’s 2-0 win against the Solomon Warriors, a victory that propelled them to the top of the group.

The Warriors scored only one goal in their two matches, and it came in their 1-0 win over AS Tiare, which helped them earn second place in the group and a move to the next round.

AS Magenta were beaten finalists in last season’s OFC Champions League after they went down 1-0 to fellow New Caledonian club Hienghène Sport in the decider.
