Tahiti’s 10-4 defeat to Brazil in their final Group A match in Dubai overnight has set them up for a tough battle against Group B winners Iran in the Samsung Intercontinental Cup semi-finals early tomorrow morning.

With a place in the semi-finals already secured before kick-off, the Tiki Toa were under less pressure than their previous games but knew that a win against Brazil would benefit them in the next round.

Brazil had the edge throughout the match, despite seeing Tahiti battle back from 2-0 and 4-2 down to level late in the second period.

However, Bruno Xavier secured top spot for the 2014 winners – and a semi-final date with Russia – with four goals.

With Iran and Russia’s final Group B match stretching into a penalty shoot-out, both Tahiti and Brazil will have their work cut out for them to reach Sunday morning’s final.
