Football development in Fiji received a major boost following a three-day Training of Trainers Capacity Building Workshop aimed at equipping participants to create lasting impact within their communities.
The workshop focused on developing confident and capable trainers and cross the three days, participants strengthened their knowledge and practical skills in coaching, player development, and programme delivery.
14 took part in the workshop, including staff from the Fiji Football Association, club coaches and managers, and representatives from the senior national women’s team. The programme centred on building confident and capable trainers who can help create safe, inclusive, and impactful football environments.
Matelita Vuakoso, OFC Womens Football Programme Officer emphasised the importance of developing skills to help create a thriving football environment.
“This training is about more than just football — it is about building confident and capable trainers who can create safe, inclusive, and impactful environments for both coaches and players to grow,” Vuakoso shared.
“Over the three days, we have seen strong engagement and development from participants, and this training will play a key role in equipping our trainers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively plan and roll out structured training programs within their communities this year.”
The workshop also brought together the Fiji Football Association Head of Women’s Football, Head of Women’s Talent ID, Head of Southern Football Development, and the Social Responsibility Manager, creating valuable opportunities for collaboration and discussion.
Through these shared discussions and learning sessions, participants explored ways to strengthen program delivery and ensure girls are supported and guided through football development pathways especially at youth level.
The workshop combined interactive classroom learning with practical field sessions, providing attendees with valuable tools and experiences to enhance the quality of TIHWF program delivery and girls football development initiatives across Fiji.
Key topics covered included coaching techniques and session planning, player development pathways, safeguarding and inclusivity, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), reporting, as well as leadership and communication skills.
The training served as an important step in building a stronger network of capable trainers who are now better equipped to deliver quality TIHWF programs within their respective communities.
Fiji’s ongoing commitment to developing people through football continues to demonstrate how the game can be used as a powerful platform for growth, inclusion, leadership, and positive social impact both on and off the field.
