The station has joined forces with Fédération Calédonienne de Football (FCF) to put on the tournament since 2006 and it has grown to become one of the most important events on the youth calendar.
The aim is to encourage physical activity amongst the country’s youth and further develop football at the grassroots level. But football is not the only focus and emphasing values such as respect and friendship is also a key aspect of the tournament.
FCF President Edmond Bowen is enthusiastic about The Challenge and believes it provides an ideal platform for the young people of New Caledonia to showcase their talents.
“It is a great opportunity for football in New Caledonia and the young generation to be able to participate in this great event,” he says.
“It is a great pleasure to work with such an important partner and we will work further to develop our partnership and build the competition.”
The event is open to boys and girls aged 10 to 11 and is taking place in three provinces over several dates.
Kone was the first to host the action on June 16 while the youngsters of Nouméa, Mare and Lifou will get the chance to show off their skills on July 7, July 14 and August 4 respectively.
Around 550 children are expected to participate with about 225 taking part on the islands of Mare and Lifou, 125 in Kone and 200 in Nouméa.
