Lending a helping hand was OFC coach-mentor Simon Toselli who kicked things off with a half-day workshop for the national team coaches.
Toselli worked through the different steps involved to prepare a team for an international tournament, including identifying players, squad preparation, team performance and defining a game model with emphasis on planning and weekly evaluations.
The workshop was an extension of the practical training sessions held over the past few weeks, where Toselli and the FFS technical department have been working together on evaluating and developing the national teams.
A three-day workshop for senior coaches from local clubs got started on Tuesday, led by key members of the FFS technical department including technical development officers Tala Salamasina, Martin Tamasese and Just Play and women’s football development officer Lynette Laumea Fa’aiuaso.
The local initiative is designed to assist coaches with delivering valuable training sessions before the football season commences in October.
“This is the right time to bring coaches at a senior level together,” Toselli says.
“The game is constantly evolving and we have to upgrade and follow the latest trends so it is our role to provide them with the tools to deliver effective training sessions.”
With a firm focus on coach education, FFS will deliver the same workshop to second division coaches next month.
