Maemae played for Hekari United, who will represent OFC at the FIFA Club World Cup in December, last season and was instrumental in helping the Papua New Guinea side take out the O-League title. He will link up at Amical with his former colleague Stanley Waita, who arrived in Vanuatu last month.
The skilful Maemae is expected to touch down on Tuesday and should not have any problems settling in his new surroundings.
Amical’s other Solomon Islands imports – who include Richard Anisua, Nelson Sale and Batram Suri – have all quickly adapted to the simple way of life in Vanuatu, which is very similar to their own back home.
They have also been able to converse freely with the locals in Port Vila because Vanuatu and the Solomons both share the use of the pidgin language.
The Solomon Islands stars have all been good role models for the younger players at Amical and have been running a children’s football programme during the weekends at the club’s home Antoine Rossi ground.
Maemae’s arrival at Amical will strengthen the side’s midfield and attacking options as the club prepares for the upcoming O-League season.
