That means there are less than three weeks left to secure tickets for all the top matches, including games involving hosts Germany and the final in Frankfurt on 17 July. Due to the high demand, tickets for the most popular matches will be distributed via lottery on 24 February to ensure all fans stand an equal chance of receiving their preferred choices.
“I would advise all fans to apply for tickets as soon as possible,” Local Organising Committee (LOC) President Steffi Jones says.
“From the end of February, we will not be able to offer tickets for all the matches. After the lottery, tickets for the first few games won’t be available. At the moment fans still have the chance to attend the final live and to support Germany on home turf.”
Since the beginning of the fourth sales phase on 20 January, the LOC has received over 45,000 ticket requests from 30 countries, including Costa Rica, Ghana, Indonesia and South Africa. Matches involving Germany have been in particularly high demand, with over 9,000 orders received in the past couple of weeks alone for the reigning champions’ second group match against Nigeria at the Frankfurt World Cup Arena.
Other games, such as the match for third place and the clash between Olympic champions USA and Colombia in Sinsheim, as well as the highly-anticipated showdown between Brazil and Norway in Wolfsburg, are also among the fastest sellers. Tickets for the aforementioned matches, as well as the opening game in Berlin, the final in Frankfurt, each of Germany’s group stage clashes and the quarter-final in Wolfsburg, are likely not to be available after 24 February, with the exception of seats with an obstructed view.
Leftover and returned tickets will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis in the Last Minute sales phase between 1 April and 17 July 2011.
Since the first sales phase began on 29 October 2009, over 450,000 tickets have already been snapped up. Tickets are can be ordered via the official online shop www.FIFA.com/germany2011 as well as the hotline 01805 / 06 2011. Tickets are priced between €15 (young persons aged 16 or under for all group stage matches, excluding the opening match, as well as for the match for third place) and €200 (final at the Frankfurt World Cup Arena).
New Zealand’s Football Ferns will represent OFC at the event and open their campaign against Japan on June 27 before meeting England on July 1 and Mexico on July 5 in their other group matches.
