PORT VILA – There was to be no repeat of last week’s stunning upset win over Westtan Broncos for Seveners United as they crashed back to earth after a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Yatel FC in the PVFA TVL Premier League yesterday.

Seveners win over the Broncos a week ago not only caused major damage to their opponents PVFA TVL Premier League hopes, but set a high benchmark for themselves that most observers suspected they would be unable to meet on a consistent enough basis to prove challengers themselves.

So it proved in yesterday’s exertions against a Yatel FC side desperate to accumulate points after a very ordinary start to the campaign.

That eagerness to get points on the board quickly translated into a goal after 25 minutes when Robert Tasso hit a fantastic left foot shot into the back of Seveners net to give Yatel FC a 1-0 lead.

To their credit, Seveners responded quickly, their fast-paced counter attack and physical up-and-at-them approach asked plenty of questions of Yatel FC’s defence, an area of their team that has so far proved solid.

For all their guile and graft, Seveners trailed by the solitary goal at half-time, but didn’t have long to wait for a goal of their own when they equalised on 52 minutes through a second half header against the run of play.

That was a wake-up call for the Yatel FC defence, led by veteran Vanuatu international defender, Roger Joe, and former international team-mates Joe Pakoa and Sithy Thompson.

After absorbing further Seveners pressure, Remy Kency made a quick-fast break and dropped a pin-point cross into the path of Robert Tasso who made no mistake to give Yatel FC a 2-1 lead on 70 minutes.

Seveners showed the spirit that carried them to victory over the Broncos when they levelled again on 80 minutes.

However, there were to be no scenes of jubilation for Seveners when on 85 minutes, Robert Tasso was bundled down in the penalty area with the referee pointing to the spot for a stonewall penalty decision.

Yatel FC skipper, Roger Joe (pictured above), made no mistake from the penalty kick and it proved enough to give his club a vital 3-2 victory.
