The group was led by Tahiti 2013 chief executive Noelline Parker, who met with GIE Tahiti Tourisme general manager Teva Janicaud, OPT president Moana Tatarata and EDT chief executive Herve Dubost-Martin this week.
During the meetings, the Tahiti 2013 organising committee decided on a timeline of events leading up to the tournament.
FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter will pay a visit to French Polynesia to check out the venue in January next year, prior to the OFC Beach Soccer Championship which will be held in Tahiti next year.
Plans are also in place to invite current beach soccer world champions Brazil to the Oceania tournament.
The 2013 Beach Soccer World Cup ball is expected to be unveiled in May, 2011 in Rome while an international tournament is scheduled to take place during the same month a year later at To’ata, on the waterfront in Papeete, Tahiti.
To prepare for the World Cup, the Tahiti beach soccer team will go on a tour of Europe mid 2012.
The partners also used the meetings to consolidate their support for the Tahiti 2013 campaign. Each manager of the organising committee will meet with the partners on a regular basis to update them on progress and make sure the strategies are being carried out.
Tahiti won the right to host the Beach Soccer World Cup in March in what was a big coup for the Football Federation of Tahiti (FTF). They beat off competition from world-class bidders Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Poland and Oman and will become the first Pacific nation to host a beach world cup.
More than 600 players, staff and spectators are expected to come to Tahiti for the tournament and it is likely to inject a significant boost into the country’s economy.
It will also expose Tahiti as an international holiday destination as the games will be broadcast on television in 147 nations.
“FIFA’s executive committee has just given French Polynesia one of the best sports events in the world,” FTF President Reynald Temarii said when Tahiti was confirmed as the winning bid.
