The finals of the ‘Festival du Futsal Scolaire 2011’ were held at the AS JT Center in Tahiti last week involving 10 finalist schools, who had been narrowed down from a total of 78 schools that entered the competition last September.
Fédération Tahitienne de Football (FTF) and the Union of Sports for Primary Edcation (USEP) organised the event which covered all Islands in the vastly spread Tahiti Nui during the qualifying rounds.
Finalists were determined not only by results on the court, but also by their development in the classroom.
The uniquely designed programme included a theme that was consistent throughout all schools with students being asked to make presentations based on the question ‘what does respect mean for you?’
The 10 finalists represented a number of different Islands but eventually it was Bora Bora’s Namaha who emerged champions.
Thanks to FTF, the winning school from Bora Bora now have the opportunity to travel to New Zealand for a language course and cultural experience.
The festival finished with a night of entertainment before FTF concluded proceedings by thanking the Minister of Education, the Director of Primary Education as well as participating teachers, parents and students for contributing to the success of the event.
