Telikom PNG chief executive officer Peter Loko presented the cheque to National Soccer League officials at Telikom Rumana on Thursday with a message to “Keep violence out of sport”.
The telecommunication company’s partnership with the National Soccer League began in 2007 and a total of PGK 750,000 has been provided for the running of the competition over the last four years.
Loko says Telikom’s ongoing support of the league since its establishment has been fruitful and has resulted in a rise in the standard of football at semi-professional level.
“An example of this is Hekari United, who represented not only the country but the entire Oceania region for the first time at the FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi last last year,” Loko says.
National Soccer League chairman John Kapi Natto is very grateful to Telikom for showing such good support to the competition.
The semi-finals of the league took place last weekend and the grand final is scheduled for this weekend.
