The wins set up a repeat of 2012’s epic final won 3-2 by Lössi in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
Magenta are chasing their ninth New Caledonia Cup title while AS Lössi could clinch just their third title since the competition began in 1950. Hienghene Sport won the trophy last season after they defeated AS Qanono 3-1.
The rivalry between Magenta and Lössi has hit new heights this season with both clubs running neck and neck in the National League title race as it heads into the final stages.
Magenta’s reputation as New Caledonia’s premier club side is well earned with the team winning seven league championships and eight Cups, a record that also includes three consecutive league and Cup doubles between 2003 and 2005.
In their semi-final clash with Gaitcha, Magenta raced into a three goal lead inside the first 30 minutes with a second half consolation goal from Francis Watrone the underdogs only reply as the favourites won 3-1.
The victory means Magenta qualified for their 12th ever New Caledonia Cup final.
In the other semi-final, Lössi took on minnows Grand Nord but struggled after the underdogs opened the scoring early in the game. Lössi dominated the remainder of the first half and their pressure finally paid off when they equalised just before half time.
Currently second in the Super Ligue, Lössi used their experience to win 3-1 and reach their third ever domestic Cup final.
Lössi’s first Cup victory came in 2007 when they defeated AS Mont Dore 1-0 thanks to a goal by Pierre Wajoka.
Magenta have lost three of their last four appearances in the New Caledonia Cup final with two defeats by penalty-shoot-out against Mont-Dore in 2007 and Lossi in 2012 and a 2-0 defeat against first time winners Gaitcha in 2011.
Last season the winner of the New Caledonia Cup entered Round 7 of the French Cup.
