The tournament officially kicked off on January 25, and FFS CEO Sarai Bareman says she’s incredibly pleased to be able to provide support for the participants in the form of much-needed equipment.
“We want to encourage more young girls to participate in football,” she says.
“Football can have such a positive impact on a young girl’s life. It has great health benefits for th egirls in teaching them to be active on a regular basis – it give them a great platform to rise to leadership positions, to make new friends, to socialise with their peers and to learn about team work.”
FFS executive committee member Emily Young was on hand to make the presentation to the eight club’s representives.
The gear being offered includes full sets of uniforms, shin pads, socks, balls, bibs and more. Additionally, Football Federation Samoa provides transportation for all the clubs registered in the U-12 and U-15 girl’s divisions, taking them from their villages to the fields every Saturday morning.
“We understand the difficulties our people have when trying to organise uniforms and gear for their teams and we hope this donation to our U-12 girl’s teams will go a long way towards encouraging the young girls to continue with our sport,” Bareman adds.
“I would like to acknowledge the support of the FIFA Women’s Development Programme for making this possible.”
